"Adesso sono solo nello studio silenzioso con queste grandi tele appoggiate alle pareti; le guardo dapprima con un certo smarrimento, poi quasi le accarezzo: vorrei che fossero loro a guidarmi la mano, a suggerirmi cosa devo dipingervi sopra.
Non so bene perché abbia voluto ripristinare una pratica abbandonata da tempo: preparare io stesso le mie tele. Chissà, forse mi piaceva rivisitare l'origine artigiana del lavoro del pittore. Adesso guardo la tela che ho messo sul cavalletto come volessi già intravedere l'immagine che vi prenderà forma... ho già in testa il titolo che vorrei dare a questo quadro: "La luce del mattino"

"Now I am alone in the silent studio with these great canvases leaning against the walls. At first I feel lost when I look at them, then I almost start to caress them. I would like them to guide my hand, to suggest what I must paint on them.
I don't know why I wanted to go back to a habit I had abandoned some time ago - that of preparing the canvases myself. Who knows, perhaps I wanted to go back to the craftsman's origins of the art of painting. Now I look at the canvas, that I have placed on the easel, as though I already wanted to see the image that would soon appear.."
